What we do, and why it matters.

At The Final Turn, our mission is built on a lifetime of devotion and respect for the horse. Guided by over 20 years of hands-on horsemanship — shaped by invaluable years working alongside legendary Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas — we provide a safe, deeply personal, and professional environment for retirement and next-home care off the track.

Every athlete that steps into our barn is treated with the specialized attention they have earned. Some of the best veterinarians in the region look after our horses — whether something needs attention or it is simply a routine health check, in clinic or on a farm visit. By working side by side with trusted, racetrack-affiliated veterinarians who continue to provide top-tier routine care on our farm today, we make sure every horse steps into its next chapter surrounded by familiar expertise and dedication.

We operate from a 10-stall facility at Blue Skies Horse Farm in Goshen, Oldham County, Kentucky — perfectly positioned to stay deeply connected to the horsemen we serve at the Kentucky racetracks, which are often the "meeting point" for horses shipping in from anywhere across the country.

The Final Turn is intentionally structured as a professional retirement and aftercare program, not a traditional "rescue." Whether a horse is letting down from the track on the way to a second career or settling into a peaceful, permanent home with us, they receive elite-level daily care. By collaborating directly with trainers, owners, and other talented horsemen and women, as well as our aftercare partners, we ensure every Thoroughbred leaves the track with a documented plan and a proven next step — or a dignified, lifelong home.

Lee Wahl

As Board Chair, Lee presides over meetings of the board and serves as its official spokesperson. He has worked with and around Thoroughbreds for more than twenty years — most recently as facilities manager at Skylight Training Center — and his family has owned, bred, and raced Thoroughbreds for many years.

Bee Buck

As Secretary, Bee maintains the organization's official records and the minutes of every board meeting. One of the country's most accomplished photographers of top racehorses, she is a constant presence in Thoroughbred racing — connections that strengthen our fundraising and help tell our horses' stories.

Eric Bow

As Treasurer, Eric oversees the organization's financial records and reports to the board at every regular meeting. His focus is making sure every dollar entrusted to The Final Turn is tracked, documented, and spent where it matters most: on the care of the horses.

Jasmin Walters

Jasmin helps connect The Final Turn with the owners, trainers, and aftercare partners who make responsible transitions off the track possible — the relationships that bring horses to our barn and find them their next homes.
